The Beginning

At the young age of 19, Richard LeRoy walked into Bond Squad MMA in Camarillo, CA and began his martial arts journey. With only a couple years of high school wrestling and some backyard boxing as his base, he quickly realized that toughness and strength were no match for proper technique. The smaller, quicker, and more technical students were able to beat him with ease.

Amateur & Professional MMA Career

Richard's natural talent and passion for martial arts became apparent to his coaches and fellow students, and he began helping the amateur MMA team prepare for fights by sparring and training with them. In the process, Richard met Kru Walter Michalowski, owner of Sityodtong Los Angeles, and was fortunate enough to be invited to the Muay Thai training camp for occasional sparring and pad work. Kru Walter began cornering Richard’s amateur MMA fights. Unfortunately, Bond Squad MMA closed its doors, and Richard officially made the move to Sityodtong LA, where Kru Walter became his head coach.

After winning four championship belts as an amateur MMA fighter with a 9-1 record, Richard decided to make the transition to become a professional mixed martial arts fighter. His decision was validated after a first round knockout in his pro debut. Richard would go on to win 6 more fights in a row before suffering his first loss. Paying it Forward

After retiring with a professional MMA record 7-1, Richard has become a father to two beautiful children, and continues to coach and corner MMA and Muay Thai fighters. Richard also earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Fernando Castillo after 10 years of training.

Richard attributes much of his success, discipline, and work ethic to the years spent in the gym honing his craft and pushing himself to become better every day. He has witnessed martial arts help people with drug addiction, health and weight issues, mental health, and so much more. His dream of opening his own Mixed Martial Arts Gym teaching world class and authentic Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is now a reality where he imparts his wealth of martial arts knowledge and combat experience at the highest level to the community where he lives and loves.
